ANNUAL REPORT 2023-2024

FROM THE HEAD
K Playground Opening 28_9.3.24.jpeg

FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear Bentley Community,

When I look back on last year, one of the things that stands out the most to me is the inspiring generosity that you, our families, faculty, staff, trustees, and friends, showed to Bentley. Because of your commitment to our students and belief in the exceptional education this School provides, we were able to raise over $830K for the 2023–24 Annual Fund—in addition to over $1 million in restricted giving—for a grand total of over $1.9 million in total gifts, a remarkable year in fundraising for our School. I’m also proud to say that we had 74% parent participation in our fundraising efforts, though I am confident that we can raise that number to even more impressive heights in the years to come.

The money raised in last year’s Annual Fund, as always, helped to bridge the gap between the cost of tuition and the true cost of a Bentley education, ensuring that we are able to deliver on so many programmatic highlights that make Bentley the rigorous, unique, and joy-filled place it is. From the beloved 9th grade rafting trip and popular robotics lab/maker space at the Upper School to the innovative ADE (Arts, Design, Engineering) elective series in the Middle School to the extensive selection of book titles available for our emerging Lower School readers in the beautiful Hiller library, all are made possible, in part, by your gifts to the Annual Fund.

Additionally, the funds raised in our mini capital campaign were put to immediate, tangible good use, with major facilities upgrades that have already benefited students on both our Hiller and Lafayette campuses—notably, the new Mulberry Playground outside of the Kindergarten classrooms and the state-of-the-art turf athletic field at the Upper School. The joy and pride that both of these projects have brought to our students is immeasurable.

Thank you again for supporting our School with your financial gifts, your time, and your belief in what we do at Bentley. I am so grateful and excited for all that we will continue to accomplish together.

In partnership,

The Class of 2024 had 13 among them remain in California for college, while 47 graduates will go out of state, with two attending university outside the US, one in Canada and one in Australia.

SENIOR CLASS GIFT

The 2024 Senior Class Gift initiative was led by Reagan Brooks-Jimenez (Cash '24), Taylor Pacheco (Jett '24), Mona Sillers (William '24), and Stephanie Young (Gray '24). Thanks to their efforts, the senior class raised more than $12,000 as a gesture of appreciation to Bentley School.

The Senior Class Gift is a cherished Bentley tradition that allows each graduating class to leave a legacy to the School. This year, the Class of 2024 Senior Gift will go towards purchasing a "Bistro Cart" that will have an immediate and joyful impact on the experience of every person attending events and games at Bentley School.

“I enthusiastically support the Annual Fund, because I know that my gift will have a direct and invigorating impact on the student learning experience. All outstanding independent schools require support beyond tuition revenue to enhance their programs, and Bentley knows how to use these funds to best optimize the educational culture and environment. I consider my gift an investment that will continue to support generations of inspirational scholars.

Supporters

We share the 20232024 Annual Report to recognize and honor our donors—parents, trustees, alumni, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends—who have generously contributed to Bentley School. Our continued growth and success rest on our ability to maintain a balance of prudent financial management while continuing to enhance programs and activities.

Throughout our 100+ year history, Bentley has continued to thrive because of the extraordinary philanthropy and deep-rooted commitment of our community. Your support of the Annual Fund not only enhances our core academic programs, it also enriches student life, supports small class sizes, offers robust professional development opportunities for our teachers, enables annual facility enhancements, and strengthens our community. We are grateful for every gift, no matter the size, and we know that an institution flourishes when the entire community feels invested in and responsible for its success.

The following report recognizes gifts made between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024.

Restricted
Giving

Restricted giving plays a vital role in supporting Bentley by allowing donors to direct their contributions toward specific areas of need or passion over and above their Annual Fund donation. These gifts have an immediate and tangible impact, ensuring resources are allocated to projects that enhance the student experience and strengthen the school's programs.

Restricted giving during 2023
2024 enabled transformative improvements, such as replacing our field and playground, creating vibrant spaces for learning and play, and expanding our STEM offerings to inspire innovation and critical thinking. These focused contributions empower the school to achieve strategic goals, enrich campus facilities, and provide students with exceptional opportunities to grow and thrive.

Annual Fund 2023–2024

Bentley's Annual Fund provides critical support that benefits every member of the Bentley community, particularly our dedicated faculty and talented students. Your generosity allows us to achieve a level of excellence in our curriculum, programs, and facilities that would not be possible without your support.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, faculty participated in various professional development opportunities this year and we were able to maintain and improve financial aid. Gifts to the Annual Fund also helped the School prioritize campus improvements and the hiring of additional student support faculty.
